He is Risen and We are Blessed

Hello dear friends everywhere. Happy Easter! Christ is Risen! I’m writing this on Easter morning. It’s a beautiful Spring day here in Eastern Pennsylvania. Lucy woke me up the usual time, sevenish, wanting to go out and to be fed breakfast. She can be very vocal! Buddy, Quiseppe (aka Zeppe), Nika, and our outside feral cat, Rascal, crawl out of their respective areas of choice, take care of business and join the line up in the kitchen to have their morning love greetings and breakfast…provided by a very groggy yours truly. I look at them and my heart overflows with love. How blessed Roger and I are to have these little ones to wake up to, to have  the freedom to go to church today without a mask and pew spacing or, that our church, our homes might be bombed…and life as we knew it is no more. Then I step outside to the back patio and breathe in the fresh morning air holding a lovely cup of hot tea. I tell myself that this is going to be a day of celebration and not to mess up my mind with depressing thoughts.

I must say that I am blessed to have a great life, to live in this country, and to be content  with the simplicity of my days. I think many of my readers of a certain age can especially relate. The Pandemic and the war in the Ukraine has humbled me outside of my complacency. Words like security, freedoms, rights, knowing where our families are, the ability to provide and fulfill our basic needs have taken on new meaning and gratefulness.
Friendship and love, being able to enjoy nature. Listening to the birds and having our small pleasures.
The small things are the really big things, aren’t they? Sleeping in our own beds must not be taken for granted.

So, how have you all been? I have been somewhat busy with taking apart what used to be our grandsons bedroom when they were small. The drawers are filled with clothing that hasn’t been worn in years. Book cases filled with much loved books. Toy boxes overflowing. An air machine for white noise so they could sleep undisturbed and a CD player with discs of silly stories and music for children. I have left this happy room for too long not having the will to tackle it. (Logan is 18 now and Josh is 14). Roger recently installed units to hold my yarn 🧶 collection and all things knitting and crocheting since my sewing room is overflowing at the moment.  The twin mattress on the floor is no more. The queen bed will remain for guests but the room is definitely not kid friendly anymore. How sad is that? But, looking at my yarn all organized in cubbies makes me happy. I decided to keep all the books for the time being. I love the pop-up books. I just can’t part with them. The toys and clothes will be donated. I did keep the spinning top. I bought it because it reminded me of my childhood. I don’t think the boys appreciated it as much though. Cars, trucks, legos and trains were more their thing, especially automated and fast. Logan loved trains and reading “The diary of a Whimpy kid” series.  Josh was into Lego sets and pop up books.  He could look at the picture on the Lego box and put together complicated configurations. Now they have moved on to other things. For his birthday Logan wanted new speakers for his computer and Josh is toting a new type of what we used to call a “boom box” when he comes to visit.

I just finished listening to an Audible book, THE HOUSE OF UNEXPECTED SISTERS by Alexander McCall Smith. And I have been reading a series of eleven books by R.A. Bentley…The Inspector Felix mysteries on Kindle Unlimited. Wierd  books outside my comfort zone include THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by T.J. Kline and THE PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION by Emily Henry.

But mostly I have been knitting on a cowl and hanging out with my easy chair buddies. ❤️

So there you have it.
Have a wonderful day!

  2. We really are so blessed. In my world, we are experiencing a late spring snowfall. Do I want snow now? No, but it brings much need moisture so I will be thankful. As you mention the books of your grandsons childhood, I was reminded of books my granddaughter loved. I have kept a few special ones, just for memory saje. Easter blessings to you.

  5. Happy belated Easter greetings to you, a bit late; I really enjoyed this uplifting post, Susan. It perfectly expressed a lot of my own feelings and perhaps those of many others. We should never take anything in our lives for granted because things are mush worse for many others as the news shows daily (another reason I do not look at it every day). While it was bittersweet to clear out things out of the room that your grandsons used, you did keep some things to evoke special memories. And, it's nice to have extra storage space for yarn.
