THIRTY DAYS AND OTHER NEWZ

Hello dear friends, I am back to continue my Thirty Days of Thankfulness posts.  I hope that you are feeling thankful for the little blessings in your life because they are there even if you have to dig deep during these strange times we live in. My mother was telling me that Corvid's tentacles has reached the Island. I was very sad to hear that. It was bound to happen I guess after the Summer and Fall tourist season. So, I am thankful that the Island was virus free for so long. We thought of it as our secure haven.  But now the seas are getting choppy!

And, the Presidential election didn't favor us conservatives so we are feeling the pain.

November 7th. I finished my bedroom deep clean and can let go of the anxiety that I wouldn't get it done before leaving. I do have some health issues that I struggle with daily so the project had to be done over several days and it's completion was very sweet indeed.

November 8th. Sunday. Yesterday I went to church and afterwards met up with two girlfriends to say goodbye. I am so fortunate to have loving girlfriends.

Roger and I went to our favorite diner for a late breakfast and then home to let the dogs out. We watched Agatha Christie's Hercules Poirot on Britbox for the rest of the afternoon. There are 12 seasons and we are up to season 7. I would like to complete all of them this next week! I don't have Roku in Maine.  So I am thankful that Roger and I and the dogs and cat are cozy and content and snug as a bug in a rug.

That brings me up to today. I started this  day with a joyous attitude. After all, the sun was shining and the temp was in the 70's. I had phone calls to make to pay some of Mom's bills but afterwards the dogs and I headed out to play in the leaves which are everywhere. Roger has his work cut out for him as soon as he finishes work for the season with my son. I then headed to  a favorite restaurant that my friend Sharon and I like to go to occasionally. She is high risk so is not going to restaurants. I had called an order in for two salmon platters with baked potatoes, salad, soup and chocolate fudge cake for dessert. We ate and talked at her house. Needless to say there were leftovers! Afterwards we enjoyed a walk around her lovely neighborhood. Very flat tree lined streets. And the colors of the leaves on the trees were still so pretty.❤ What a nice afternoon! Two oldsters with a lot in common including wrinkles!

Roger is a banana eater. I am not. He thinks I should be. Very nutritious. So he leaves a banana every day somewhere he knows I will see it. On the counter, on my purse, next to my chair in the family room, on the washer and he writes on it "eat me". He has been doing this FOREVER.

Have a great day!💕

  1. As a person who leans conservative (though, probably more libertarian) I have had such mixed feelings over this election. The results don't bother me nearly as much as the celebrations tinged with hatred, the media unable to contain their delight, and protestors still proclaiming the need to tear down anything and everything, it seems, simply for the sake of disrupting and dismantling. This is a wholly inadequate comment on my view of the state of things, but I thought it important to at least affirm your quiet and respectful response to the election results last week.

    1. I hear you Becki! You are so much better at communicating the climate of our country right now! The media has been so biased these past 4 years and the high ranking democrats so mean spirited and vindictive in their hatred.

  2. Bananas are good for us but I can’t eat one every day. Once a week is my limit.

  3. I certainly miss the shoreline. Lake Michigan was always the best place to find peace and calm. I have been in a major "funk" lately and I'm sure a Pandemic and Election has had something to do with it. ( I agree with Becki above!) So I have been trying to focus on the little things. Happy weather, good Fall color,( rare for Iowa!) and warm and snuggly cats. Also, we seem to be doing well at the Stocking shop. One of the reasons I enjoy reading people's blogs is because you can see you are not alone in your thoughts and feelings and lives. Also, I enjoy the pictures from around the country.

    1. I would love to visit Lake Michigan! I love love the ocean though. Yes, we need to try to find our "balance" by enjoying nature, our hobbies, our pets, friends and families.

  4. Talking about bananas; they are known for their potassium content, but per 100g, the avocado fruit contains 485mg of potassium, that's 127mg more than bananas!
    So how about an avocado?

    All the best Jan

  5. We do have an endless list of things to be thankful for . We have more restrictions again as well, but i have a comfortable home, all the food I need and more, so I can’t complain about being at home. I like bananas, but would have a very hard time eating one every day .

    1. I feel so humble when I think of how fortunate we are compared to all those who are struggling with families to stay afloat these days. Those of us who are retired know from month to month what our income is going to be. We don't lay awake nights wondering how we are going to make ends meet in these difficult times.

  6. That made me laugh about the bananas, I don't mind bananas but don't eat them very often.

  8. I cannot seem to keep my mind focused on things...I think Becki said it well. I cannot talk about it without becoming someone I don't like. I just keep saying God is in control. Over this and so much more. I do not want to become like them. I never voice political views on my blogs, and very seldom anywhere else...like here. I may have commented one or two other places this year. And it just to say I agree..no ranting or raving. But you would not believe the hate filled comments i get. Mostly about us Baby Boomers and Covid...but one or two threw in that us baby boomers voted conservatively and every one wishes us to die. Of course they always do it anonymously. That is why I moderate all comments on one blog, and the other one, after a post is a couple days old.

  9. I am afraid for Biden's America...we shall see. Stay safe!
