UKRAINE: HEAVY ON OUR MINDS

Hello dear friends! πŸ’– I hope you are well. It’s 19 degrees F here. It was only days ago that the temps hit 70 and silly people had shorts on! Yesterday we had a snow storm with bitter winds to make it feel like we were in Siberia.
Speaking of which, it is unbelievable what Putin is doing in the Ukraine.  Our hearts go out to those people who are not in safe places right now.  If, by chance there is a victim (s) reading this…WHEREVER you are in the world if you are caught up in conflict or war please know that we are thinking of you and we  pray that you have found safe havens. Sitting here drinking my tea, it all seems surreal what is happening elsewhere in the world.  I hope that the rest of us looking on feeling helpless will do whatever we can to support them in whatever ways available to us. I have bought patterns, yarn, and other craft items from Ukraine businesses on Etsy. I don’t expect to hear from them but at least they have money going into their accounts such as PayPal to access whenever.

Buddy refuses to put his toes anywhere near snow so getting him to go out has been a challenge. He acted like he had never seen it before and just maybe he hasn’t, At one point I picked him up and put him in it. He ran back in the house. Then I put a collar and lead on him and took him out front. He was trembling and miserable so inside we came. Roger shoveled and took him up our driveway and onto the plowed road for a walk. Both of them were very happy to get back home again. At the moment he is tucked in beside me in my easy chair and Lucy is sharing the foot rest with my feet and legs. πŸ™ƒ There’s no way I have elbow space to knit or crochet until I can separate Buddy from myself. So far, no luck. But, we love him. He’s supposed to be Roger’s dog but has become a Mama’s boy. If you didn’t read my last post…Buddy was adopted a couple of weeks ago. He is very lovable, 9 yrs old, but was never house trained. He rarely went outside and did his business on wee wee pads. We have an enclosed dog yard with a flap to the little mud room off the kitchen. He has loved using the flap and races around the yard. And, he has, for the most part, figured out that praise and a snack πŸ–will be his if he “performs” while he is out there. Roger walks him everyday. I’m told he gets along well with small dogs but growls at big dogs.πŸ₯΄
Roger and Buddy

Speaking of pets, Nika, our 16 year old Ragdoll cat had to go to the vet this week. She was coughing and sneezing. She received an antibiotic injection and is doing much better. She has a heart murmur and kidney disease but is eating and drinking so we are keeping a close eye on her. Poor baby. She is the cat that my son dropped off about 6 months ago when his father in law had to go into a home. (Alzheimer’s)

So, lately, it’s all about pets here. Did I mention that Buddy has allergies? Roger and I have always had dogs and cats so, for the most part, we can handle what comes our way. I have to admit, I freaked a bit when we found out Buddy hadn’t been house trained. We found out after we adopted him and by that time he had found his way into our hearts. πŸ’—

I read a very good but sad book this week…ROWING WITHOUT OARS by Ulla-Karin Lindquist. A memoir.  ULLA was a well known TV broadcaster in Sweden, with 4 children, 2 of them very young, her husband a surgeon… and she was diagnosed with ALS. I normally shy away from sad books but decided to read it since I know very little about the disease. I’m glad I did.  So well written! 5 stars.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

So, there you have it.
Take care of yourselves,
πŸ’•

  1. I'm glad to hear that Buddy is doing well with his training, though I'm with him, I'm not that keen on going out in snow either, haha.

  2. I am with Buddy at this stage of winter. I would like to run home when I touch the snow too. It sounds like he has found two loving owners for sure! Hope Nike is fine too.

As I write, the winds are so high they are shaking the house. Brrr…

  3. Since he hadn't been house trained and used wee pads, outside is probably a whole new place for him. Sounds like he is getting the hang of using the toilet outside. Bless you for taking in such needed pets.

  4. I had a close friend who got ALS and has since died; it's a horrible disease. Also horrible: what's going on in Ukraine. May we live to see brighter days!

  7. Pets can sure help keep your mind off more depressing world events, Susan. It sounds like Buddy has found a new buddy in you. Hope the outdoor potty training will be successful once the snow has gone.
