FALL 2016 Hi there! Happy Fall! I know that I have not been around much these past 2 months. The summer just flew by and spending so much time traveling between Pennsylvania and Maine takes a lot out of me. I need time to recuperate from taking care of my parents, mostly my mom, dad's in a nursing home, which I find exhausting so when I get back to PA I don't do much of anything for about a week. The second and last week I'm home I visit family, do shopping, and spend time with my fur babies and then catch up with social media. I have no internet service on the Island. We have had lots of wind and rain both here and in Maine. I didn't take a lot of pictures but will show you what I did take on Little Deer Isle because I love our ocean views. Not a lot of excitement here in Bethlehem, looking very drab. The causeway from Deer Isle to Little Deer Isle. I stopped in the middle of the causeway to capture some of the Fall colors. Pumpki...

DEER ISLE, MAINE WHY I LIVE THERE PUMPKIN ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE Deer Isle Sedgwick Bridge One side of the Deer Isle Village. If you blink you miss it. If you are wondering why most of my pictures have ocean scenes, it is because I live (2 weeks of every month) on an island connected to the mainland by a bridge. The group of islands; Little Deer Isle, Deer Isle, and Stonington, are about 10 miles in length and five miles at it's widest. I estimate about 5000 natives live on the islands year round. In the Summer there are many more as it's a very popular tourist destination. The Summers are beautiful but the winters can be harsh. I am a native, I was born and raised there but left for college after graduating high school, left college after 2 years to get married and raise a family. We ultimately ended up in Pennsylvania in 1980 after living in Canada and moving back to the Island long enough for my husband to realized that he...

Lazy hazy days of Summe r Hi there, It's been awhile since I dropped by but a lot has been going on with my health and my mother's. I have been spending more and more time away from home and on the Island with Mom. I am back in PA for 10 days and have been trying to play catch up. So, it has been 3 months since my fall and the injury to my shoulder and I am just now having therapy for it. I have about 2 weeks of it under my belt. The Island is very beautiful this time of year.... buzzing with "summer people" at their cottages and driving up and down the road from the bridge onto the Island and down route 15 to the Lobster Capital of Maine, Stonington. I pretty much like to stay put and away from the rubber neckers. I haven't really used my camera much lately but will show you a few that I took rather hastily one day. The top picture is the view from our hill looking off over the roof top of our neighbor and out towards Eaton and Pickering Islands. ...

I have had a rough time of it lately. A shoulder injury that just doesn't want to heal. So, Saturday I had an MRI and we shall see what can be done to get me back to "high tide" again. Being incapacitated by not having a working right arm is the pits. I feel like the sparkle has gone out of my world. I am dependent on others for the simple things like opening and closing the car door on the passenger side. I want my blue skies back! I worked for a rehabilitation hospital for 18 years and what I saw the patients there going through kept me humble. Now, since retiring 10 years ago, I am wondering if this injury and my impatience to get well again is meant to be a lesson in patience, empathy for others and humility. It's something to think about that is for sure! Well, I am back home in PA for about 3 weeks. It's the longest I have left my mother on the Island in ME since dad went into the hospital in December and then into the nursing home. But I have a ...

Random photos from my albums. A Day after returning home from the Island and after my being excused from grand jury duty, I had a very painful accident on the patio off from our kitchen. It was dusk and I was coming back from the clothes line when I tripped over the iron rod that holds the bricks in place. Through the years the ground has settled and now the rod protrudes above the bricks instead of even with them. I was walking briskly one moment and the next thing I knew I was in horrible pain lying in a heap on the bricks. I cried out to my husband after the shock wore off and he came running. Getting me up off the bricks proved to be a problem since I am no skinny minny. My right arm felt broken at the elbow, I landed on my right side so my neck, shoulder, and leg were badly bruised. I tried to break my fall with my arm so I wouldn't hit my head. Five days later my elbow and shoulder still hurt like crazy and I am wondering if I will be able to drive back up...
